Use official figures as matched references

The current 2026 China configuration table publishes different WLTC consumption and tank figures for gasoline and intelligent-hybrid Frontlander versions. Match the exact production version before using those numbers. They compare controlled configurations; they do not establish the selected car’s route result.

Build an ordinary and adverse route case

Record urban congestion, highway speed, gradients, temperature, wind, HVAC, passenger and luggage load, tyre pressure and fuel quality. A hybrid may gain more in repeated low-speed traffic than on a steady fast route. Keep a practical reserve instead of multiplying brochure consumption by nominal tank volume and calling the result guaranteed range.

Measure the candidate consistently

Use repeatable full-to-full refuelling over a meaningful distance where practical, and preserve distance, fuel volume, route and conditions. Dashboard averages can support the record but should not replace measured fuel input. Diagnose an unexplained difference before pricing long-distance use or shipping fuel arrangements.

Match consumption and tank data to one version

The official 2026 table separates gasoline and intelligent-hybrid configurations and publishes different consumption and fuel-tank figures. Record the exact model code, production date and powertrain before copying a value. Do not combine the lower hybrid consumption figure with the gasoline model’s larger tank to create an impossible range claim.

Model the buyer’s ordinary week

Separate cold starts, short urban trips, congested commuting, open-road travel and extended highway speed. Add passengers, luggage, hills, HVAC and expected idling or waiting. Weight each segment by actual distance and frequency so the result reflects use rather than an attractive single test route.

Build an adverse case and reserve

Repeat the estimate for severe heat or cold, strong wind, sustained speed, full load and traffic disruption. Keep a fuel reserve appropriate to the route and local station network. Nominal tank capacity is not fully usable trip range, and a dashboard distance-to-empty display remains an estimate based on recent operation.

Control tyre and maintenance variables

Incorrect pressure, unsuitable tyres, alignment drag, brake drag, dirty filters, warning faults and overdue maintenance can affect consumption. Confirm the rolling assembly and mechanical condition before treating high fuel use as a permanent model characteristic or low fuel use as proof that a used vehicle is healthy.

Measure fuel use with a repeatable method

Where practical, record distance and verified fuel added over more than one meaningful full-to-full interval. Note route, weather, load and refuelling method. Keep dashboard data as supporting evidence. Very short samples, changed pump cut-off points and seller-selected downhill routes are not reliable comparisons.

Translate consumption into ownership cost

Use current destination fuel prices and realistic annual distance. Add the cost of the correct fuel grade, service, tyres and any difference in purchase or inspection exposure. A hybrid saving matters only when the route creates that saving and local workshops can support the selected system.

Keep export and shipping assumptions separate

Carrier fuel limits, loading instructions and port rules are operational requirements, not normal driving-range tests. Record fuel level at handover and arrival. Do not use a shipping fuel restriction to infer tank capacity, consumption or mechanical condition, and do not promise a route based on pre-export dashboard range alone.

Investigate consumption outside the expected case

If measured use differs materially from the matched reference and route model, check tyre pressure, brakes, alignment, filters, fluids, warning memory, fuel quality and driver or traffic conditions before assigning a cause. For a hybrid, review battery temperatures and operating behaviour. Record the diagnosis rather than advertising one unusually good trip or dismissing repeated poor results as normal variation.

Present a range estimate honestly

Show the official matched figure, measured candidate evidence, ordinary scenario, adverse scenario and reserve as separate lines. State the date and assumptions. Avoid a single headline distance that conceals tank, route or climate differences. Recalculate when tyres, load, season, fuel, destination or powertrain changes, because the previous estimate no longer describes the same operating case or buyer.
